What is Internet Marketing?

anonymous asked:
Internet marketing is still a complete mystery to a large majority of Internet users. For many users, internet marketing is seen as some foreign area of the web, populated with silly get-rich-quick schemes and unsavory characters ready to rip off the innocent and uninformed consumer at the click of a mouse.
In reality, Internet marketing is populated mainly with hard working professionals promoting and selling high quality brand products by many of the world’s Top 500 companies.
Worldwide there are now over a billion Internet users, representing one large global consumer base or marketplace. The total amount of goods sold online has been steadily increasing each year as the Internet gains in both popularity and familiarity. Studies have shown people shop online because of lower prices, a wider selection of products, easier comparison shopping, and many just prefer not having to travel to stores to make a purchase.
Still Internet marketing has gotten a raw deal.
If you mention to any group of professionals that you’re an Internet Marketer and that you work full time on the Internet… you will receive some very skeptical looks and more than one arched eyebrow of disbelief.
Regardless of this lingering skepticism, Internet marketing has become a viable alternative for many disgruntled professionals dissatisfied with their working hours or conditions. It has become a viable alternative for many people from all walks of life. From the college student to the bored housewife to the retired doctor… all are enjoying a part time or full time income from the comfort of their homes.
And since the Internet is now practically available to everyone, anywhere in the world – Internet marketing is a level playing field. There are many forms of Internet marketing. There are many online business models you can follow. There are countless ways to earn a good honest income from the Internet. Which path you take will be largely determined by research, work habits, and the time you are willing to put forth.
Here’s a quick rundown of the most popular forms of Internet Marketing:
1. The Brick and Mortar Store Online. Most major companies and retail stores have created online versions of their brick and mortar businesses. Even if consumers don’t buy online, many use these sites for gathering product information before buying in the real world. A factor many savvy businesses are exploiting in their overall marketing strategies.
2. Online Services. Many service industries have moved online, everything from travel to banking to dating! Again, the Internet can be a profitable extension for any service company.
3.Internet Gurus… Internet marketing has a whole history of pioneers who have forged the methods and techniques of marketing online – opt-in lists, mini-sites, article marketing, pay-per-click advertising, joint ventures… a brief history populated with such names as John Reese, Marlon Sanders, Ralph Wilson, Yanik Silver, Corey Rudl, Ken Evoy and countless others.
A whole new industry has grown around ‘How-to’ market online, info products, workshops and web seminars – teaching people how to market on the Internet. A marketer creating his own product can prove very productive – as seen by John Reese’s 2004 launch of Traffic Secrets, which earned over a million dollars in one day. (Without a penny of paid advertising!)
4. Online Advertising and Pay-Per-Click advertising such as those offered by Google Adwords and others, presents another viable marketing route. Keywords (the exact words typed into a search engine) fuel a large portion of the web’s activity. Keyword marketing has become a major driving force behind most of the economic transactions on the web. This is a very lucrative sector for those Internet marketers who know exactly what they’re doing.
Then there is the whole section of SEO experts and consultants who command high prices for positioning companies or products in the top positions on the major search engines. Acquiring organic Top 10 search results will greatly determine the profitability of your online product or company.
5. Affiliate Marketing. One of the least understood, yet one of the most profitable forms of Internet marketing is affiliate marketing. An online marketer can join any affiliate program and promote its products or services on the Internet. You market the products, find customers for the company and receive a commission for each sale you make from your marketing efforts. These commissions can run anywhere from 2% to over 75%. One affiliate click can earn you anywhere from a few cents to several hundred dollars.
Major third party affiliate programs or companies such as Commission Junction, Clickbank, LinkShare, Amazon, Shareasale… acts as a brokerage or go-between representing thousands of Top Brand companies such as Sony, Apple, Dell… to online affiliate marketers. Marketers can join a program such as Commission Junction or LinkShare and be able to promote and market hundred of top quality products or services online. They can consolidate their affiliate marketing through these third party programs.
Perhaps the most common business model for the majority of online marketers is the last example, or a combination of advertising and affiliate sales. Many work-from-home professionals have adopted this business model. They have created a site or sites on the topic that interests them and of which they have or have gained some expert knowledge.
Once these sites become established and gathering a large amount of targeted web traffic each day, making a nice income can only be a matter of putting the Google Adsense code on their pages and placing a few appropriate affiliate links on their sites.
The more traffic these marketers deliver to their sites, the more income they earn. The more unique content they create, the more income they earn. The more web sites they design, the more income they earn.
What many people outside of the web marketing field fail to realize, the Internet is a 24/7/365 business. The Internet is always on and working for you. It is automatically producing income for you 24 hours of the day, while you’re sleeping, while you’re enjoying a nice meal with friends, or even while you’re on vacation.
Internet marketing can provide you with a lifestyle that is totally liberating – you can live and work anywhere in the world. You can be your own boss, set your own hours and work from the comfort of your own home. Plus your whole online Internet business can be automated so it basically runs itself.
Internet marketing is totally flexible. You can adjust your workload to suit your own work habits. Internet marketing is scalable, once you have learned how to make your first dollar; it is only a simple matter of repeating and scaling up what you did to earn that dollar. Computers and the Internet make it just as easy to handle a thousand sales as it is to handle one sale.
As Internet marketing becomes better known, it will gradually earn more and more respect. It will become a well recognized profession that many will aspire to and follow as a life long career. Mainly because Internet marketing will give you the freedom rarely seen in any other profession.
It offers you mobility, a high standard of living, and a working environment that can’t be beat. It gives you the freedom to follow your own interests and hobbies; all the while turning those interests into viable revenue streams that supports the lifestyle of your own choosing.
When it is all said and done , earning a living just doesn’t get any better than this.

Internet Marketing Course – the Best Internet Marketing Course Subjects Revealed!
Filed Under Internet Marketing | Comments Off
Andrew bell asked:
Getting into Internet marketing is not as easy as others might think. It is not just the matter of having your personal computer connected to the Internet and you can now start earning income through Internet marketing. Above all, you need to have an idea about starting your business on the Internet. In other words, you must have done your homework first before taking the plunge of getting into Internet marketing. Remember that this kind of business venture is full of financial risk that can cause you to lose not only your investment but also your determination to continue the business venture.
If you are into Internet marketing, you must not forget the name of the late Corey Rudl. He is one of the famous personalities in the world of Internet marketing, in which he have produced 4 highly-successful business that he started from his parents’ basement area. These 4 Internet-based businesses are generating an average of $6.6 million worth of sales per year, with the help of over 60,000 affiliates. His websites are attracting over 1.8 million visitors every month.
Take note: 1.8 million visitors in each month!
How did he do that? That is the question that will strike on anybody’s mind. Whatever “magic” he applied to his business, certainly it helped him a lot in establishing an Internet marketing empire over the net. And just like other successful Internet marketers out there, he will tell you one piece of advice before you plunge yourself in the world of Internet marketing.
Take the best course and apply what you have learned from it.
There are many neophyte Internet marketers who followed the right track and took the Internet marketing course first before getting into the business action. There was once an Internet marketer who said that he personally learned more about the appropriate marketing strategies from the course than any other textbooks that he read prior to the course. It provided him excellent ideas on how he will set up his website, what stuff will he offer for sale, and others.
Thinking about getting into the best Internet marketing course before getting into the business? Good decision, yet you need to know what can you expect when you take an Internet marketing course. There are many programs (both offline and online) that offers Internet marketing course, but the best course contains the best subjects that will serve as your guide on Internet marketing. Such subjects are as follows:
1. The course will start by discussing some basics of Internet marketing. Although it will not elaborate the history of the investment, it will include the basic opportunities on how you will be able to earn online without wasting your effort and financial resources.
2. Next in line is setting up your website. Keep in mind that on Internet marketing, your website will serve as your “shop” where you can sell products of other Internet marketers or promote something that will generate income on your part. The subject will include the appropriate website design templates to be used on a particular business, registering your site in its own domain name, and others.
3. Along with the course, expect that it will include several strategies on how you will be able to anticipate the moves of your competitors. Internet marketing is a growing market, and competition among Internet marketers is inevitable. Thus, there is a need for you to watch how your competitors move in order to stay alive in your chosen investment.
4. The course will also include subjects related to website promotion through the use of online classified ads, press releases, newsletters, emails, newsgroups, and others. Keep in mind that your website must be as popular as possible so that you will be able to attract more clients. Promoting your website as your product is very critical on Internet marketing, and it is one of the subjects that would be discussed extensively.
It is natural that you will spend some of your money in taking an Internet marketing course. Keep in mind that in order to succeed, you must have the necessary knowledge and skills that will help you reach your marketing objectives. After all, the money that you will append on taking the course is much better if the return of investment later on is large enough.
Now, are you ready to plunge to the real world or have yourself first some glimpse of what you will expect on Internet marketing?

Marketing Framework for a New Business
Filed Under Internet Marketing | Comments Off
Jody Gabourie asked:
Every business needs a marketing framework – but many new small businesses get confused about which steps they need to take first.
I define a marketing framework as the basic structure of your overall marketing action plan that also encompasses the core marketing strategies you need.
It’s like when you’re building a house (my Dad and brother are carpenters so I’ve seen a lot of houses being built!) and after you’ve poured the concrete for the base, you start framing…which means you start building the framework of the house with wood 2 X 4’s.
Once that framework is done, then the carpenters start filling in the wood framework with insulation, plywood, sheets of gyproc and so on.
Marketing your new business is the same way…you start with a marketing framework – the basics for marketing your business – and then you start building from there.
There are 3 main reasons why it’s important for you to have a marketing framework:
1) a marketing framework will ensure that you have the necessary building blocks to start marketing effectively and keep marketing
* we all need a place to start and figuring out your marketing framework will give you that place to confidently start marketing your business
2) a framework gives you the ability to make a plan of action
* in order to make a successful plan of action for marketing your small business, you need to have a starting point from which to build and start adding action steps that you need to take to keep your marketing momentum going
3) a marketing framework makes it easy to figure out which marketing strategies to add
* once you have the basics in place, it’s easier for you to add tactics that will work with and build upon the marketing tactics you already have in your marketing framework
You can see a theme running through these 3 reasons and it’s all about being systematic, consistent and building upon what you currently have.
When you start with a marketing framework and have the basic marketing building blocks in place, it makes marketing your business easier, faster and more enjoyable (because it’s less work and you have time to check out other exciting business and marketing opportunities).
There are 3 components that you need in your marketing framework:
1) a website
2) free giveaway and opt-in box
3) marketing tactics based on your core marketing strength
Let’s look at each of these in more depth:
The first component you absolutely need in your marketing framework is a website. I’m sure you’ve heard this again and again, and are probably sick of hearing about it….but that’s because it is so important!
A website is crucial for building credibility, trust, a relationship with prospects and clients, and also as the key means for building your list. This leads us into the second component you need in your marketing framework.
The second component is a free giveaway and an opt-in box. These go hand-in-hand – you need to have an opt-in box on each page of your website that gives people access to a free giveaway in exchange for their name and email address. This is the way you start capturing names and build a list of prospects that you can communicate with on a regular basis and build a relationship with them.
A free giveaway is a piece of valuable information that your prospective clients would find useful. There are many different formats you can provide your free giveaway in: a report, audio lesson, tips & tricks, a checklist, an audio recording and so on.
The third component that you need in your marketing framework is tactics built around your core marketing strength. There are 3 main areas that most marketing tactics fall under: writing, speaking and networking.
All of us are usually stronger in one of these areas, we enjoy one area more, or it comes easier and we can therefore do it quicker.
Once you figure out that, you will start to add marketing tactics that are built around that core strength of yours, and then grow from there.
So if you’re just starting out or you are not achieving the results that you want, take a look at your marketing framework. Make sure you have these 3 components working smoothly and rest assured you’ve got a solid marketing base from which to go forward.

Don’t be Crunched by the Credit Crunch – Upgrade Your Marketing!
Filed Under Internet Marketing | Comments Off
Objective Marketing asked:
Are you going to let the “Credit Crunch” crunch you? Even though the present negative press and media coverage is enough to make you pack up and head for the hills – don’t! Or, burying your head in the sand isn’t going to help either – you need to take some positive action!
In ignorance, many companies pull the plug on their marketing budgets when times get tough – but that is very short sighted. Why is your business in decline? It’s because you have less clients, or your current clients are spending less.
So what is the solution?
Yes, you need more clients or encourage those you work with to spend more with you. As a marketing company, we often have people come to us when they are in trouble. Through months or possibly years of neglect of their sales pipeline, they have reached difficultly where their cash flow dries up, and their forward forecasts will no longer gain them credit with their bankers. That’s such an awful place to reach! So, please learn from other’s mistakes and concentrate your efforts on sales and marketing.
So – how’s your sales pipeline?
Have you dedicated sufficient man hours or staff to ensure that new business will continue to flow your way? It’s highly recommended to introduce new practices in the current climate and here are a few suggestions to get you going:
Re-educate your sales staff to the new demands of business under the Credit Crunch i.e. you are going to have to negotiate harder than before and deliver more
Re-evaluate your current spend on marketing and where possible increase it
Adapt new methods of lead generation and find new sources
Network with increased intensity amongst your clients, prospects, collaborators, partners, suppliers and competitors
Rekindle your relationship with current clients and ensure you are getting your share of business if other suppliers are involved
Tighten your credit control to ensure constant cash flow
Take fewer financial risks than before, and if possible, increase the level of deposits on orders to spread your risk or costs (if applicable)
Introduce something new (Product or service) to make sure your visibility levels remain high with current and potential clients
Automate your sales pipeline using a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system like www.salesforce.com – so you never ever miss another lead or opportunity, and you can track your sales pipeline accurately
Ensure that you confirm at least 30% of this quarter’s pipeline – more if possible
Ensure you are using the internet to your advantage using Search Engine Optimisation, Web 2 practices such as blogging, and raise your presence in social networking and book-marking sites such as Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Facebook etc

My company is in dire need of some marketing support. We have been approached by a marketing group who has contacts in our field and they have set a specific number for three months worth of services (includes money for packaging, advertising, etc.). How much on average should a company invest into marketing?
So far, thank you for the help. Is there an available number value for a small business trying to sell a product in Home Depots and Lowes?

The Different Types of Affiliate Marketing

Boris Tomson asked:
The Different Types Of Affiliate Marketing :
Affiliate marketing programs has never been as popular before as it is today. Why? There can be a number of reasons. The most probable reason, however, could be the fact that the benefits of affiliate marketing have become clearer to a lot of people now than they were before.
Today, both the merchants and the affiliates can see clearly that affiliate marketing can work for both of them. The merchant sees affiliate marketing today as the chance to advertise their products at a lower cost. The affiliates, on the other hand, sees affiliate marketing as an easy way of earning profits online by doing what they like most, and that is by creating websites.
Just as the popularity of affiliate marketing has shifted into greater heights, so has the people’s outlook about it changed. No longer is affiliate marketing considered today as an alternative method for the merchant to advertise his products, or as a source of additional income for the affiliates. For merchants and affiliates alike, affiliate marketing is now considered as a main source of profits and revenues.
So the question now is what type of affiliate marketing will work best for you? Are all affiliate marketing programs the same? Are the benefits the same? Or are there affiliate marketing programs that work better than the others?
There are actually different types or classes of affiliate marketing, and the number of types will depend on how one will classify them. The most basic affiliate marketing programs, however, falls under two categories: pay-per-click (PPC), and pay-per-performance (PPP).
Pay Per Click (PPC) PPC is the most popular type of affiliate marketing for affiliates with small websites, and probably the easiest way for them to earn money. In this affiliate marketing type, the merchant pays his affiliate whenever a visitor is referred to his site, that is whenever someone clicks through the merchant’s banner or text ads. The affiliate gets paid a certain amount even if the visitor he referred does not purchase anything from the merchant’s site. However, typical fees for PPC affiliate programs are small, usually not exceeding a dollar for every click.
Pay Per Performance (PPP) PPP affiliate marketing is the most popular among merchant and is also the most lucrative type for the affiliates. In this type of affiliate program, the merchant only pays the affiliate whenever his referral translates into an action-that is whenever the visitor he has referred actually buys something from the merchant’s site or when the visitor becomes a lead. This means a lot of savings for the merchant. On the other hand, it becomes the most lucrative type for the dedicated affiliate, for commissions in PPP affiliate marketing usually comes in the range of 15% to 20% of the actual product sales. http://affiliatenetworkssites.blogspot.com
Pay-per-performance affiliate marketing can be further classified into two popular types: pay-per-sales (PPS) and pay-per-lead (PPL).
o Pay Per Sale (PPS) In a pay-per-sale type of affiliate marketing, the merchants pay the affiliate a certain fee whenever the visitor he has referred to the merchant’s site actually buys something from the merchant’s site. Affiliates are often paid on commission basis, although other merchants would opt to pay a fixed fee. But no matter what the basis of the fee is, it is generally higher than the fee paid to affiliates in a pay-per-click affiliate program.
o Pay Per Lead (PPL) The pay-per-lead type of affiliate marketing is a slight variation of the PPS type and is often used by insurance and finance companies and other companies who rely on leads for their company to grow. In this type of affiliate marketing, the affiliate is paid whenever the visitor he referred to the merchant’s site fills up an application form or any similar form related to the business of the company. Compensation for this type of affiliate marketing is based on a fixed fee whose rates approximate that of the fixed fee in the PPS type.
Aside from these three specific types of affiliate marketing, a lot of other affiliate marketing types exist. If the classification is based on the depth of the affiliate network, it can be classified as single-tier, two-tier, and multi-tier affiliate marketing. There is also another type of affiliate marketing that pays the affiliate each time the customer he has referred purchases something from the merchant’s site.
Single-Tier, Two-Tier, and Multi-Tier Affiliate Marketing These types of affiliate marketing are based on the different levels or tiers in the affiliate network by which payments are made. In a single-tier affiliate marketing program, the affiliates are only paid based on the direct sales or traffic he has referred to the merchant. All the previously mentioned affiliate marketing types (i.e. PPS< PPL, and PPC) fall under the single-tier classification.
In two-tier affiliate marketing programs, the affiliate is not only paid for the direct traffic or sales that he refers to the merchant’s site, but also on every traffic or sales referred by various other affiliates who joined the affiliate program through his recommendation. Multi-tier affiliate marketing works the same way, although the affiliate gets additional commission for a wider number of affiliates in different tiers in the affiliate network.
Residual Income Affiliate Marketing In residual income affiliate marketing, the affiliate gets paid not only once for every customer he has referred to the merchant’s site. Rather, the affiliate is also paid whenever the customer he has referred returns to the site and purchase another product. Compensation for such type of affiliate marketing is based on either sales percentage commission or fixed fee basis. http://affiliatenetworkssites.blogspot.com
The different affiliate marketing types would virtually work differently for merchants and affiliates alike, and each would generally have their own list of benefits. Which type of affiliate marketing will work best for you? It is not really for me to tell. Rather, it is for you to choose which type of affiliate marketing program will suit your needs and characteristics best.
